Warboys Walkers

Programme 2008 - 2009       Notes   Germany trip 2006

Warboys Walkers

Warboys Walkers were formed in 1987 with the express purpose of ensuring that footpaths in the Parish and local area were maintained and kept in a reasonable condition. The Walking Group has no formal constitution, no subscriptions and no committee members but is held together by a group of like minded people who enjoy walking through the countryside and the social companionship which this brings. At present there are in the region of 60 active members in the Group and turn out at any one time varies from 5 to 20.

The Group meets twice a month throughout the year - on the first Saturday and third Sunday and during the summer months, every other Friday evening. Walks vary in length from 5 to 15 miles and now venture further afield than was originally envisaged, the latest addition to the programme was a 10 mile hike along the walks of Devil’s Dyke. It has already been said that this is a social group and all walks manage to find a suitable public house around the half way mark, where a snack and a beer are enjoyed together with a chat over a wide range of subjects. Walks are planned and led by a group of, at the moment, 18 leaders so no great burden falls upon one person. Social events include a barbecue in July and an annual dinner in November/December each year.

For the last 10 years the Group has normally had two trips away during the year one being over the late Spring Bank Holiday weekend to the Isle of Wight and the other for the last 3 years has been to Germany in the Autumn.

The Warboys Walkers welcome everyone to join them, they are not fitness freaks, in fact, at times ‘Talk’ would be more appropriate than ‘Walk’. Contact Doug Crane or any of the Leaders listed in the programme if you wish further information.
